Kenneth Kwainoe (Nana Enoo Mutaku II) was born and raised in Ajumako-Bisease, which is part of the Central Region of Ghana. He got his elementary and secondary school education at Ajumako-Bisease and while there, qualified for two scholarships (C.M.B and Government scholarships) that allowed him to attend Mfantsipim Secondary School, also in the Central Region, for his ordinary and advanced level education.
At Mfantsipim, he obtained the West African School Certificate and the Cambridge High School Certificate and proceeded, with honors to attend the University of Gold Coast at Legon (Accra), where he finally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He also obtained a post-gratitude Diploma at Greenhill, in London.
Having majored in finance and economics, he was assigned to the Ghana Auditor General’s Department as an Auditor. He gained rich experiences there and was promoted to Assistant Director of Audit, and later assigned to the Office of Government Machinery, based at the Castle, where he had previously been an Auditor.
Mr. Kwainoe was again transferred to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, as Chief Accountant to re-structure the Inspectorate Division of the Department, which was nonexistent. Having distinguished himself, he earned a promotion to Deputy Controller and Accountant-General and at times acted on different occasions as the Accountant-General.
In 1976, Nana Kwainoe was enstooled as the first ever Mankrado of Ekumfi Essakyir, under the stool name “Nana Enoo Mutaku II”. After many years of serving his community , Nana was and is currently the longest serving chief (37 years) at Ekumfi Essakyir.
With a vision to change his community, he entered into politics a year later and after contesting in the 1979 parliamentary elections, he came in third. Due to the time constraints of this period, he retired prematurely from his professional career.
After the elections, he re-entered the Public Service and was appointed as Deputy Chief Internal Auditor at P & T Corporation, now Ghana Telecom. After many years in this role, he was promoted to Director of Audit.
He retired after 65 years of public service and joined the family business and was the driving force behind the Step-by-Step Montessori School at Dansoman, Accra.
In addition, Nana was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Bisease Secondary Vocational School which is now a public school. He was also chairman of the Bisaease Development Association for over Ten (10) years and backed important projects in Ajumako – Bisease.
With regards to family, Nana was one of 10 children and had 3 brothers and 7 sisters. He was married to Beatrice and had 4 children with her but had had two children from a previous marriage.
Beatrice is currently running the Montessori school that they both created and is busy with grandchildren. Her strength holds her family together.
His passions in life were family, helping others, a champion of education, an avid reader with a quest for knowledge. He was a leader and an advisor and he raised several nieces and nephews as well as other children that were not from family. He was firm but gentle and is known for doing what’s right in any situation.
His last legacy besides raising his children is a foundation that the family created to continue his quest to help brilliant children that are underprivileged. The Nana Enoo Mutaku II Education Trust Fund has been created to help children with promise to achieve their dreams of higher education.
